I didn’t choose retail, retail chose me!
Fantasies of a career in forensic anthropology aside (as it turns out, not such a departure afterall) I was at a loss to know what I really wanted to do post university.
To buy some time, I returned to the shop floor where I’d spent weekends and vacations in fashion retail, to support my studies. Taking what I initially considered a temporary role with Estee Lauder, I had an epihany, discovering not only a real talent for turning around sales, relating to customers, leading a retail team but the beginnings of a lifelong obsession with retail.
Since then, working across the fashion, beauty and luxury food sectors, in increasingly ambitious operations and marketing roles, I’ve opened 29 stores (and counting!), built both sales and marketing teams from scratch, rebranded a tired and inconsistent retail estate and been pivotal in successfully launching the bricks and mortar channel of an established online retailer.
And I’m still hungry for much more.
